Town of Grand Valley Automated Speed Enforcement Project
For Immediate Release
GRAND VALLEY, ON – An automated speed enforcement (ASE) camera is expected in Grand Valley within the next three months.
Grand Valley council is working with Local Authority Services (LAS), the business services arm of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, and Elovate to implement a two-year pilot program that will see a camera installed in the community safety zone at the school along Main Street in February 2025.
The camera system will capture vehicle speed data in real time, and then issue speeding tickets to the vehicle owner if speeds exceed the 40km/h speed limit. This program will help improve safety on Grand Valley roads while keeping police resources free to address priority issues.
The Town sought a revenue-neutral turnkey solution for the supply, installation, and maintenance of an ASE system, which LAS’s ASE Service offers. The Town will spend tax dollars upfront, with costs recovered over time from ticket revenue.
The Town’s community safety zone was established through various by-laws, based on safety concerns along Main Street, Water Street and Amaranth Street, being the busiest roads in the urban area.
Signs warning that cameras are “coming soon” will be posted for 90 days before ticketing begins, and tickets will be handled through a central Joint Processing Centre and the Caledon court system, similar to the current OPP-issued speeding tickets.
