Garbage and Recycling

In the Town of Grand Valley waste collection services are provided by the County of Dufferin.  Their services include:

Waste collection guidelines

Garbage, recycling and green bins are collected every Thursday. All waste should be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on Thursdays and no earlier than 5 p.m. the day before.

You are allowed one garbage bag and it must be placed:

  • In a clear plastic bag (completely transparent and colourless)
  • In a clear colourless bag within a garbage container
  • loose in a container

Recyclables, household hazardous waste, electronic waste or leaf and yard waste items are banned from the landfill. If these items are in your household waste bag it will not be picked-up.

Purchase of garbage Tags

If you have more than one bag of garbage, you need to purchase a garbage tag for any additional waste. Extra garbage tags can be purchased for $2.00 in the Town of Grand Valley at:

Grand Valley Public Library
4 Amaranth Street E.
Telephone:  519-928-2586

Garbage tags may also be purchased on-line through Dufferin County's Website.

Transfer Station

Green for Life (GFL) Dufferin Transfer is a private transfer station. You can drop off large household items to the transfer station. The County of Dufferin doesn't own or operate a landfill or transfer station where you can drop off garbage or waste.

New or replacement bins

If your green bin or small kitchen container is broken, bring it in! We will have it recycled and give you a new one. If you're a new resident, Dufferin County will provide you with a Green Bin and a small kitchen container for your organics.

Green Bins and small kitchen containers are available at the locations below:

Extra containers are also available for a fee.

Blue Bins

As of July 1, 2023, Dufferin County is no longer managing the recycling program.
